I
have always had an artistic background starting in my early school years. After graduating from
high school in 1967, I applied for and was accepted to enter
the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio. I was there for one and a half
years before moving back to Tennessee and joining the service.
Over twenty years ago I started doing pen & ink drawings, then later adding color to them. Prints were made from the originals of which I sold at local Arts and Craft shows in the area. At the time this was very exciting for me as I began to produce my art in order to make sales. Not only did this hobby turn into a job, which was not the intention, but the quality I was producing went down. Realizing this had happened, I completely stopped drawing all together. Years went by and I picked up a piece of walnut board and tried to carve on it with just a knife. I put it back down in the garage and didn't give it another thought until two years later. Its been about thirteen years since I picked up that first piece and finished it using a dremel tool. Click here to see that piece. Today, I carve with hand gouges, only after giving everything else a try, finding that working with a piece of finely sharpened steel provides the greatest reward within one's self. I use many different types of woods in my creations: walnut, mahogany, poplar, cherry and others. Many hours also have been spent using different stains, varnishes and color mediums, all of which react differently on different kinds of wood. My purpose with this web site is only to show my work. If by doing so I have sparked an interest
in another person being able to learn this craft then all is well.
